Again the net label Original Dub Gathering this time for a compilation on the famous collection it proposes: Step4i. The sixth volume, available in free download as others, proposes 26 tracks and same much of participants.
Hard to tell about all. That we can say, we can find some artists from ODG or other net labels such as artists signed on most « traditional » labels. By this fact, we can find on this volume The Blackstarliners, Jah Billah, Dub Engine sharing the opus with Weeding Dub, Kanka or Brain Damage.
A match copyleft versus copyright? Not. Just a meeting of dubbers to promote their music and the richness of this one: to show the different styles of this kind which is dub music. Actually, the compilation presents as well roots, stepper, electro-novo-dub, dubstep and other experimentations inna dubwise style.
The Blackstarliners is a band created in year 2006 mainly by the producer Ayato who practises dub music since more of 10 years about. The sound of the band is fully influenced by the UK stepper. The members have also shared stage with some of their prestigious idols such as Zion Train, Disciples, Bush Chemists or others Improvisators Dub, Kanka during some live sessions. Just some references on the kind.
By listening Roaring Lion, we can feel this different experiences and meetings. Actually, the EP develops a very powerfull dub stepper worthy of this named artists or bands. A sound, that I can say, remind the stepper of another great dub producer : Weeding dub. To tell how the music proposed is effective and extremely powerfull.
And at the same time, very melodic with a nice female voice for a sweet flow. So, don’t hesitate to go to download it. The quality is there in every levels.
To conclude, a little word in memory of Manutension who left us the last year. Actually, this release was mixed in his studio. I had also remixed Faya Dub. Version proposed as second track of the EP.
Vlastur started his journey into music as a Bass player. Back in the mid-80’s, he was a founding member of the Cohash Funk, an underground funky Athenian group. In 1998 alongside Frequency Freak, fellow Cohash funk guitarist and Spiris, a dubby drummer, formed « Apeuthias Syndesi » now known as Direct Connection, a dub experimental laboratory. They released « Dub Infection » in 2007. Even though he started as a Bassist in Direct Connection, he was the main FX Sound Engineer of the band.
In the meanwhile he was also working as a session musician with various artists and bands. In 2004 he teamed up with Palyrria an ethnic-electronica band and in 2005 recorded « Methexy » with them and has played in many of their gigs.
The (InterAxion Dub) project is the first fully length work of Vlastur. Influenced by all his beloved sounds from Dub to Dubstep trough Psy, Ambient, Drum n’ Bass and Traditional Mediterranean sounds !
Vlastur MegaDrop is the live project of him. He performs his material with the help of 2 skilled musicians. Dark Elf (Synth, Fx, and Mixing/Master) and Spyro. K (Drums and Rythms)
Vlastur believes that the sound evolves constantly while the vibe remains the same, from Rock n’ Roll to Punk and from Dub to Psy.

En ce mercredi 14 octobre 2009, c’est au tour de U.Stone d’apporter sa pierre à l’édifice Original Dub Gathering. Digital Shadows vous délivre 6 tracks mêlés d’électro, de drum n’ bass, de dub, de breakbeat… Autant de styles autours d’un opus me direz-vous ? Une petite rétrospective s’impose. U.Stone est un compositeur et un DJ, depuis une dizaine d’années il se donne corps et âme à la musique dite « électronique« . Après avoir monté un live drum n’ bass novateur (Yen Sound Project) à Tours à la fin du dernier millénaire en compagnie de Vini Selecta et de Mc Am’n, il enchaine les productions jungle et drum n’ bass avec la franche intention de conquérir les dancefloors. Après diverses collaborations avec certaines figures de la scène française tels Mc Runigga (GG Project), Dj Ben (Missil Crew) ou encore Blender, il sera plébiscité par quelques labels français et anglais et sortira plusieurs vinyles. Notons que le dernier en date est une collaboration avec Vini Selecta sortit sur Nu Urban France (NUMFR 03), comprenant le fabuleux titre Computer Dub à découvrir immédiatement ici . Résidant à Bourges depuis quelques temps, U.Stone a pu se faire remarquer aux fameuses soirées Kill Bass avec ses mixs breakbeat/jungle/dum n’ bass, aux cotés d’artistes tels Teebee, Futur Prophecy, Interlop ou encore Jamalski. Vous l’aurez compris il ne s’agit pas là d’un jeune enfant de la MAO mais plutôt d’un père.. Certains seront peut être surpris de l’omniprésence du terme drum n’ bass dans ce paragraphe, en effet U.Stone fait partie de cette culture underground, c’est d’ailleurs d’où provient la richesse de ses productions. Comme vous l’avez peut être lu ou entendu la ville de Bourges possède de nombreux activistes dans différentes scènes. Et c’est à la rencontre de la scène dub que U.Stone est allé, s’associant à Val Dawa (Dawa Hifi) au saxophone et mélodica (High Stoned et Sleepless Night), entre dub, dubstep et drum n’ bass il n’y à qu’un pas et Digital Shadows le prouve !
Et comme il le dit si bien : « Si mes productions actuelles sont influencées par le dub, sur scène je fais une place d’honneur à la drum n’ bass et aux dubplates maisons. »

This one is a new release on the Original Dub Gathering netlabel. French dubmaker Redi [Ruhdy] found himself 15 artists willing to contribute a tune on the “Dub War” theme. The result is mainly dub steppers and electro dub, some of them inspired by film director Georges Lucas (Star Wars, anybody?) but almost all of them clearly addicted to a deep and grooving bass. This is mostly dark and heavy warrior dub, with the exception of some minimal dub tunes. Nice idea, nice compilation. And it’s a free download to top it all. Just like we always thought: the only good war is a dub war.
Training native to Drôme, Drydeck evaporates since 2005 instrumental and electronic Dub coloured with ethnic samples and kinematics. After the exit of their 1st autoproduced called opus « Dub Chamber » in 2007, the crew brought its stone in the (3rd) building Step4i with title My soul is in trouble. Throughout the productions of the group you will discover to them numerous going influence biensur of the French dub » Hightonien » in the dub UK and Jamaican to Hiphop and to the world of electronic music. It is this intense marriage that Drydeck defends, from the first listening it is a complete immersion in their world at the same time dark and mélancholique where every piece is tinted with the same feeling that evolves in queue of reverbs and delays.
After a long absence on the cloth, Ondubground combines in Drydeck to melt in the same opus to them two interpretations of common Dub. Maxi at the crossroads of Steppa, of Etnho-Dub and of Dubstep, trimmed with samples drawn of film, in oriental voices and instruments of the world.
Dawa Hifi est à l’honneur en ce jeudi soir 28 mai 2009 ! Original Dub Gathering est fier de vous proposer en libre téléchargement le 2e opus sur la toile du célèbre sound system berruyer. Après leur 1er maxi « Pelplum », le Dawa impose ses 5 tracks au sein du bien nommé Antik Tings. Antik car produit entre 2007 et 2008, ce maxi dévoile tout le savoir faire de Val’ Dawa ou « Digi Val » dub composer du crew. Saxophoniste de formation, il développe depuis plus de 5 ans un dub massif, tonique et avant-gardiste. En compagnie de Guimix, ils explorent les possibilités de la Mao des nuits durant et montent un live dub stepper avec l’aide de Natty Bass Tom et Bongo Ben sous le nom de Orange Dub. Après quelques prestations engagées, notamment aux côtés de Brain Damage en 2006, le crew prend radicalement la route du sound sytem et abandonne temporairement les shows live instrumentaux. Remarquable agenceur de lourdes rythmiques et de mélodies acides, Val’ Dawa enchaine les productions par dizaines, définitivement décidé à envahir le dancefloor français. Son associé Benabass l’épaule dans l’élaboration méticuleuse d’un véritable sound system à l’anglaise ils parviennent ainsi à réunir assez de matériel pour faire vibrer un troupeau de massives. Aujourd’hui le Dawa Hifi incarne la relève de la scène française, à la fois en sound system et en live il défend un dub analogique et engagé.
Panda Dub est un créateur originaire de Lyon. Depuis 2004 ce jeune Panda explore les voies du dub avec talent, puisant son inspiration dans le « Dub made in France », c’est grâce à une formidable maitrise de la MAO qu’il nous livre depuis quelques temps des productions hautes en énergie et en couleurs. Panda est également multi-instumentiste (mélodica, percussions, Erh hu, saz, guitare, flutes, clavier, basse..) vous retrouverez donc dans ces productions bon nombre de mélodies endiablées de sa propre conception. Mais le projet ne s’arrête pas au studio puisque vous pouvez aussi apprécier le Panda dans un live machine/basse enivrant et explosif. Prenez garde aux rythmiques acerbes du Panda, son electro-dub puissant en fera sautiller bien plus d’un.
