In memory of the fabulous and genius Serge Gainsbourg, the French band Ondubground proposes a new net-EP on its label Original Dub Gathering. Actually, this production presents dub versions of of the song « Lola Rastaqouère » from the first album reggae of the master: « Aux armes et cætera ».
Simply titled « Lola », the maxi is composed of 4 versions of the song inna style heavy dub stepper & rub-a-dub with some special guest stars. An EP clearly intended to sound system and dance-floor.
In fact, the EP is a bit realised such as maxi vinyl with two parts. The first track is the rub-a-dub version of the song. A sound stepper with a heavy bass line and the best choice of MC’s with Biga*Ranx and the legend Joseph Cotton. Plus Massa and Bongo Ben from the ODG’s crew.
This version is followed by an excellent dub version and a guest at the saxophone: Mael Cageron. On this second track, a kind of duel between saxophone and melodica is proposed. At least 5 stars (of 5) for this remarkable version.
The two last tracks, that is the second part for me, is the dub versions signed by FredDread a.k.a Webcam Hi-Fi. He adds his own vintage touch to the ODG version of the song. Inna style a bit coolest but still so powerful.
